Breaking News!

Tidewater Region 6 will host a tournament this year.  The tournament will be held at Menchville High School on March 18, 2023.

Be sure to check for clarifications,  tournament suggestions, and spontaneous practice problems on the Odyssey of the Mind website at www.odysseyofthemind.com .  You can also view videos of  World Finals long term submissions.

New this year is the Odyssey Academy:  A Guided Virtual Class on Creativity by James Mourey, Ph.D. This free series of online classes will introduce coaches, students, parents, teachers, and administrators to Odyssey of the Mind.  Dr. Mourey is a former Omer and current Odyssey official.  Some of the 15 sessions included explain the Odyssey program, how to teach brainstorming and creativity, long term, spontaneous, style, writing a skit, paperwork, and understanding judging scores. This series is excellent for use with your team in preparation for the season, during the season, and as you head to competition.  Check out series of videos at Odyssey Academy

A Dedication to Mr. Anthony Brickhouse, 2020-2021 Tidewater Region 6 Outstanding OMer Recipient (posthumous)

The 2020-2021 Tidewater Region 6 Odyssey of the Mind Season is being dedicated to Mr. Anthony Brickhouse, Outstanding OMer Award Recipient who embodied the spirit of Odyssey of the Mind with his whole heart.

As a Security Officer at An Achievable Dream Academy, he inspired, encouraged, and connected with students, parents, staff, adults, and especially OMers. In life, his laugh was loud and wonderful! He saw the greatness in everyone. Mr. Brickhouse was a huge supporter of the Odyssey of the Mind Program. He opened the school and stayed late for practices.  Brick loved challenging the students on spontaneous and complementing the students on their creativity with their sets, costumes, props, and solutions. He never missed a Regional or State Tournament where An Achievable Dream Academy and/or An Achievable Dream Middle/High School Odyssey teams competed. I think Mr. Brickhouse was more excited than the coaches when An Achievable Dream Academy qualified for World Finals in 2018. I know his yell was the loudest in the auditorium! As their biggest cheerleader and honorary coach, he accompanied the team to World Finals.

The trip was full of many laughs, first plane rides for most of the students, searches for coffee on campus, pin trading, trying to capture the right shuttle, and remembering to enjoy every minute of every day with our OMer Dreamers and high school teams. One of my fondest memories of the trip was him spending the entire day at the spontaneous site pumping up not only the AADA team, but the other two teams from Newport News, Warwick HS and Woodside HS. You should have seen him with the silly string! I lost track of how many bottles we went through that day on the teams as we celebrated them. Even when the Newport News teams were finished with spontaneous, he took time to cheer on Poquoson teams (our neighbors), and any Virginia team. That was just Mr. Brickhouse, a champion of children and their dreams.

We dedicate the 2020-2021 Tidewater Region 6 Odyssey of the Mind season to you. You were and will forever be our Outstanding OMer Mr. Brickhouse! Teamwork makes the Dream work. We miss you!

Dr. Kimberly Beckerdite

Region 6 Director
