Tidewater Region 6 Odyssey of the Mind Merges with Piedmont Region 4 and Rappahannock Region 10:
As the Odyssey of the Mind program across Virginia continues to adapt and grow, we are making some changes to ensure the success of our tournaments. To maximize participation and celebrate the diverse talents of our teams, we are blending regions this year. We are excited to announce that the Tidewater Region 6 Tournament will welcome teams from Region 4 and Region 10, in addition to our own Tidewater and Hampton Roads teams. This means our tournament will showcase creativity and collaboration from across Virginia, including the Tidewater, Hampton Roads, Rappahannock and Piedmont regions.
We look forward to seeing the amazing performances of your OMers and celebrating their hard work, innovation, and team spirit. Thank you for your dedication to the Odyssey of the Mind program, and let’s make this season one to remember!

Purchasing a Membership:
- This is a friendly reminder that all teams must have purchased an Odyssey of the Mind Membership with Creative Competitions, Inc.
- Check out the Membership Link to purchase a membership.
- If you are a coach in a school district, you will want to contact the school district Odyssey of the Mind Coordinator to determine how memberships will be purchased as it varies among the school systems. Please visit the following website to learn more about the Odyssey of the Mind Program.
Coach and Spontaneous Training Sessions:
- Zoom option: October 30, 2024 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. (best option for experienced coaches)
- In-person option: November 7 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Gatewood Learning Center located at 1241 Gatewood Road, Newport News, VA 23601 (best option for new coaches)
- Individuals should complete the Coach and Spontaneous Workshop Registration link by October 25.
Tournament Information:
- The Tidewater Region 6 Odyssey of the Mind Tournament will be held on March 15, 2025 at Menchville High School located at 275 Menchville Road, Newport News, VA 23602.
- This will be an in-person tournament.
- Tournament registration information will be sent out in November.
Be sure to check out Odyssey Academy: A Guided Virtual Class on Creativity by James Mourey, Ph.D. This free series of online classes will introduce coaches, students, parents, teachers, and administrators to Odyssey of the Mind. Dr. Mourey is a former Omer and current Odyssey official. Some of the 15 sessions included explain the Odyssey program, how to teach brainstorming and creativity, long term, spontaneous, style, writing a skit, paperwork, and understanding judging scores.
